Crazy Things

 Crazy Things

It's amazing what crazy things love can make you do. Ryan enlisted in the
Marines and asked me to be his girlfriend all on the same day, July 27,1999. It
was the summer before our senior year of high school. I told him he was "crazy"
not knowing at the time that eventually his decision to become one of the few
the proud would effect me too. It never occured to me we would be together this
long--I never thought I would fall in love with him. But I did and here I am a
year and five months later, a proud Marines Core girlfriend. And now people
call me "crazy."

When Ryan left for boot camp this July of 2000, I had to make a decision. I was
either going to be strong and tough it out (even though it was breaking my
heart) or I was going to give up on Ryan and all of the feelings we have for
eachother (and be miserable.) The choice was pretty easy to make and I'm glad I
stayed with him. Our realationship has become 150% stronger. Absence really
does make the heart grow fonder. And not that this has been easy on us becuase
I'll tell you right now this is the hardest think I have ever done. I have
learned to take it one day at a time. Not a minute goes by that I don't think
about my Ryan and miss him with all of my heart. I just keep preying that the
next four years go by fast so we can be together again.

We recently recieved the news that Ryan will bw stationed in London for a year.
That is three hundred and sixty five days all taken one at a time. This is
definately going to be a true test of our love, but I know we can do it. When I
told my best friends about London they said, "oohh...so are you going to break
up with him?" I was totally suprised, that thought hadn't even crossed my mind.
I don't know what I would do without Ryan in my life. I don't want anyone else.
People try to tell me I'm young and in college so I should move on. They say,
"There's other fish in the sea." But I don't want other fish; I want Ryan. If
that means I have to wait then I will wait. I believe that love is stronger
than any distance. I know, no matter how physically far apart we are, we are
never far at all because he's in my heart, and my thoughts, and my dreams, and
my future.

From a very loyal Marine girlfriend to her very loyal Marine boyfriend. I love
