FIRST 33 DAYS

WE DROPPED YOU AT THE PIER
STILL DARKEN IN THE MORNING
AS YOU WALKED AWAY IN THE DISTANCE
I WATCHED YOU DISAPPEAR

I THOUGHT THAT DAY WOULD NEVER END
AS I DROVE BACK HOME
I HEARD OUR SON IN THE BACK
SAYING DADDY'S ON THE BOAT

WITH A SMILE ON MY FACE
AND A TEAR IN MY EYE
I SAID HE'LL BE HOME SOON
PLEASE BABY DON'T CRY

AS THE FIRST WEEK PASSED
WE FINALLY GOT A CALL
YOUR DADDY'S ON THE PHONE
COME AND SAY HELLO

TOO BUSY TO STOP PLAYING
I TALKED TO YOU INSTEAD
I LOVE YOU'S AND I MISS YOU'S
WERE ALL I COULD REALLY SAY

THREE WEEKS HAVE PASSED
A LOT MORE TEARS HAVE FALLEN
LETTERS ARE OK
BUT WE WISH YOU COULD KEEP CALLING

WHERE IS DADDY?
HE IS ASKING ME NOW
WHAT SHOULD I SAY?
I TELL HIM YOUR ON THE BOAT
AND THAT YOUR ON YOUR WAY

WITH ONE MORE WEEK TO GO
WE COUNT THE DAYS THAT PASSED
AND AFTER I THINK ABOUT IT,
IT WAS NOT ALL THAT BAD

I'M THANKFUL THAT YOUR SAFE
AND ON YOUR WAY BACK HOME
I REALLY CAN'T BLAME YOU
FOR HAVING TO BE GONE

I KNOW THERE'S MORE TO COME
AMD JUST WANTED YOU TO KNOW
I'LL STILL BE HERE
BY YOUR SIDE
EVERY TIME YOU COME AND GO!
